January - Famous Frank "Trader" Lane replaces Marvin Milkes as General Manager. March 6 - At Mesa, AZ, the A's and Brewers test Charlie Finley's idea of 3-ball walks. The A's win 13-9 in a game featuring 19 free passes, essentially ending the experiment. May 1 - Brewers starter Bill Parsons walks the first three A's batters and is lifted for Jim Colborn, who pitches a complete game, 4–3, win. Johnny Briggs drives in all the Milwaukee runs, including a home run in the 9th inning off Blue Moon Odom (0–5), to win it. June 26 - The Brewers Marty Pattin gives up 11 hits to Minnesota, but still shuts them out, 5-0. August 21 - Mickey Lolich allows six hits as Detroit beats the Brewers 7-2. It is Lolich's 20th win of the year September 2 - Royals P Ron Theobold pitches a one-hitter against the Brewers but still loses 1-0, as Milwaukee scores a 2nd inning run without a hit. Marty Pattin pitches his 5th shutout of the season September 7 - Kansas City's Amos Otis collects four hits and five SBs in a 4-3 win over Milwaukee. Darrell Porter's wild throw on a steal allows Otis to score the winning run September 30 - Chicago finishes the season by edging the last-place Brewers, 2-1, on Bill Melton's 33rd home run of the year. Melton is the first American League home run leader in Sox history October - Ken Sanders is named the Sporting News Fireman of the Year after he appears in 83 games, compiles 31 saves and 1.92 ERA, and sets an American League record by finishing 77 games. His 12 losses (against 7 wins) are the third-most relief losses in a season. October - Bill Parsons was the number-two starter for the last-place Brewers, going 13-17 with a 3.20 ERA. He is named The Sporting News' AL Rookie Pitcher of the Year for his efforts, and is runner-up to Chris Chambliss in the BBWAA vote for Rookie of the Year.  October 11 - The Red Sox and the Brewers engineer a 10-player trade that sees P Jim Lonborg, P Ken Brett, OF Joe Lahoud, OF Billy Conigliaro and 1B George Scott go to Milwaukee, and P Marty Pattin, P Lew Krausse and OF Tommy Harper head to Boston.
